 Dear Film Diary Friends!

     Black film along with black actors and actresses are becoming increasingly popular, let me tell you! We are on the rise! We have come along way from being depicted as thieves or the help. More and more of us are writing, producing, directing, and acting our own work and I think it’s about damn time we talk about it! My blog is to celebrate, educate, and elevate our black film stars who are making a way for future black stars! I’ll also include in this blog upcoming festivals, events, movies, comedians,  a little black history, award shows and anything else you want to see in black film!  I feel it is important to see others paving way for people like me who also want to leave a mark, not only in the Entertainment business but Black Entertainment.  So if you love film, especially black film, feel free to follow my blog for weekly updates!                                            Chris Rock Makes a Deal with Netflix

  After eight years, Chris Rock will be returning with two stand-up comedy specials after Netflix endorses a $40 million dollar deal outbidding Hulu, Amazon, and HBO.

  Rock was recently Emmy nominated for the HBO “Schumer Special” and hosted a great performance for the Oscars this year (2016). There is no word of what the specials will be called or when they will air but that they will start planning in 2017. Rock will also be starting a global stand up comedy tour in 2017. Stay tuned for more info on this great comedian favorite.

               VIN DIESEL RETURNS IN XXX PREQUEL

                                             

 Vin Diesel finally returns in the XXX series playing, once again, as Xander Cage in the new XXX: Return of Xander Cage. We remember the first XXX released In 2002 and then the second XXX:State of the Union with Ice Cube who played as Darius Stone who was a new agent in the XXX program.

   XXX: Return of Xander Cage is set to release January 20^th, 2017.  Xander Cage comes out of self-imposed exile, thought to be dead, and is set on a collision course in a race to recover a weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill seekers, Xander finds himself caught in a deadly conspiracy that points to deceit at the highest levels of world governments.

                                       BOO! A MADEA HALLOWEEN

Trying to win the approval of her friends, 17-year-old Tiffany sneaks out of the house to go to a Halloween bash at a fraternity. The fun soon ends when police and the cranky, fast-talking Madea (Tyler Perry) arrive to crash the party. Unhappy with this sudden turn of events, the vengeful collegians decide to scare Madea and her cronies with a series of pranks. She soon finds herself under attack and on the run from an assortment of ghosts, ghouls and zombies on Halloween!

Boo! Madea Halloween was released October 21, 2016 just before Halloween. The ratings didn’t go too well with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 3.5/5 giving it a general unflavored score! Madea earned a bountiful $17.2 million in its second weekend to easily top the box office for the second weekend in a row.  While it may fold after the end of the Halloween season, it’s still on track to earn anywhere from $80-$90m, perhaps surpassing the $90.5m of Madea Goes to Jail in 2009.

Walter (Danny Glover) is a retired automotive engineer who lost the love of his life one year earlier. Now that the holiday season is here, he invites his four adult children and the rest of the family to his house for a traditional celebration.  Walter knows that if daughters Rachel (Gabrielle Union) and Cheryl (Kimberly Elise) and sons Christian (Romany Malco) and Evan (Jessie T. Usher) can spend five days together under the same roof, it will be a Christmas miracle and the best Christmas gift.

                             
                                            LOVING (BASED ON A TRUE STORY)

Released on November 4^th, this movie didn’t get much hype and I'm wondering why? This movie is about an interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving, who fell in love and were married in 1958. They grew up in a small town in Virginia that was more integrated than surrounding areas in the American South. As a couple they fought against State laws that jailed and then banished them. Richard and Mildred relocated with their children to the inner city of Washington, D.C., but the family decides to sue the state of Virginia in a series of proceedings leading to the Supreme Court's unanimous decision in Loving v. Virginia, which holds that laws prohibiting interracial marriage are unconstitutional.

                                SCENE IT

                                     

     Okay, So Boo! Madea Halloween was a classic Madea masterpiece filled with silly acting, outrageous antics, and a cast full of rambunctious characters. I knew this movie would be nowhere near scary and prepped myself to be more entertained than shaken and this movie did not disappoint.

Madea and her friends end up in an unintended situation when she agreed to watch her son, Brian's(Tyler Perry), daughter(Tiffany) while he works. His spoiled daughter was supposed to go to stay with her mom but she refused, forcing Brian to make this determined decision. Tiffany being the brat she is decides to try and scare Madea and her friends by telling them the house was haunted instilling fear and paranoia in them. While they are freaking out, Tiffany and her friend Aday sneak out to a Frat party that they are way under aged to go to.

You bet Madea went and crashed that when she found out this was going on and ended up sending the cops(with her not around of course!). When this happens, the Fraternity was outraged and planned to get back at Madea which made the entire movie! I enjoyed the fact that instead of Madea doing all the bullying, she was being scared out of her mind! And later at the end, it all became a learning lesson like all of her movies.

I've been a fan of Issa Rae since her youtube series Awkward Girl, so when I heard she finally got her own comedy series, I had to watch it!! Insecure is funny as f, real as f, and watchable as f! So tune in on Sundays at 10:30pm on HBO with Season 1. Insecure has also been renewed for a second season!  

Thursdays 10/9c on ABC

How to Get Away with Murder grabbed us with the first season and never let us go! Now in it's third season, Annalise(Viola Davis) never ceases to surprise us with her sacrifices and questionable decisions! This is a must watch every Thursday night! If you aren't watching this now, catch up on the seasons on Hulu or ABC.go.com

Can I get a hell yea for Morris Chestnut as Dr. Beaumont Rosewood starring in his Series Rosewood who is a private Pathologist who performs autopsies for Miami Police Dept. He works along side the resilient Detective Via who is fascinated and yet irked in Rosewood's abilities! I personally watch it for the eye candy but the story line, Miami sizzle, and crime puzzles keep me coming back for more every Thursday at 8pm!

       Michael B Jordan (Age 29) first started out in a few famous TV Dramas; The Wire, Friday Night Lights, and Parenthood. From there this hot number took on the role of “Oscar Grant,” in Fruitvale Station.  In 2015, he then tackled the role of the Human Torch in Fantastic Four after his role in the 2012 hit Chronicle and Red Tails.  Next up he played a newly single friend in That Awkward Moment. He recently became even more of a hit when he played in Creed starring Sylvester Stallone as Creeds rising son. He’s also taken on other roles in movies like Pastor Brown and Blackout.   Jordan has supported several charity causes which are the Elton John Aids Foundation, Manifest Your Destiny Foundation, Padre Contra El Cancer, and Lupus LA (where he currently resides in Los Angeles). Just this year NBA 2k17 gave him the host role as “Justice Young.”   He’s won several NAACP Image awards for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series and Motion Picture. He’s won Best Breakthrough Actor at the Hollywood Film Awards. In 2016, he won Choice Movie Actor: Action in Teen Choice Awards, and those aren’t even nibbling the amount of awards this guy has racked up. We probably all fell in love with Gabrielle Union (44) with her in the movie The Brothers but I can definitely remember her in her early years when she played a lead cheerleader role in Bring it On. Some other hot favorites are Deliver us From Eva, Daddys Little Girls, Think Like a Man, Bad Boys II, Cadillac Records, and now she is starring in her very own BET series, Being Mary Jane.

So what is she doing now?

Enjoying her relationship with cutie NBA star Dwyane Wade!

Starring in the new Almost Christmas movie which is out now!
